Earlier this year Information Management wrote an article that discussed what the author refers to as “emerging data scientist urban legends.” The article is aptly titled “Who is the Data Scientist?” Given what I know about data scientists, much of the commentary in the article resonated with me – and made for an entertaining read. However, as a recruiter vs. a data scientist (or a unicorn), I can't attest to this first-hand. So I took to the streets (a.k.a., the Sagence consulting staff) to get their perspective. What makes a great data scientist is someone who has a combination of mathematical and statistical expertise along with a strong business sense, a passion for digging into data, and the ability to tell a story.
